Dressmaker Tools Hub
Controls, PC checks, and a pre-delivery quality pass for the sewing loop.
This Tools Hub collects the practical pages you open with the shop already running: how to steer the machine, whether your computer will run the Steam build, and the last-pass checklist that separates a 70% dress from a commission you can hang in the window. Dressmaker is a single-player Unity sewing sim. It rewards slow hands more than hotkeys, but the wrong input mode or a weak GPU still ruins a night at the table.
Use these pages with the mechanic guides, not instead of them. How to play is the full loop. Sewing is the machine. Cutting patterns is the table. This hub is the overlay: inputs, hardware, and quality gates.
Pages in this hub
- Controls — mouse click-drag sewing, Space plus arrows, piece rotation, the speed limiter, and Steam’s mouse-only / no-timed-input options.
- System requirements — Windows and macOS minimums for Steam, what the itch.io prototype adds on Linux, and storage that stays near 1 GB.
- Quality checklist — grain arrows, green outlines, slow stitches, trim pins, and a delivery ritual.
- Steam Deck and consoles — Deck compatibility is Unknown; no Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox; mouse-only and no-timed-input help handheld hopes without a verified claim.
If you are about to sit down in Prototype 0.5.5, read controls first. If you are preparing a PC for 21 September 2026, read system requirements. If a dress already looks “fine” on the mannequin and still scores poorly, skip to the quality checklist. If you hoped to sew on a handheld, read Steam Deck and consoles before you treat an unofficial “verified” graphic as fact.
What these tools are not
They are not cheat tables, trainers, or mobile APKs. Dressmaker has no official mobile or console build. Steam lists Windows and macOS for the full game. The itch.io prototype also ships a Linux zip. Ignore reuploads that promise an Android port or a “full unlocked Steam.” Official files live on the links hub.
They are also not a substitute for fabric knowledge. A perfect sew on the wrong bolt still fails the brief. Rank cloth on the Fabrics Hub after your hands know the machine.
A sensible order for launch week
- Confirm the Steam page still says 21 September 2026 and that your OS is Windows 10+ or an Apple M1 Mac. Details sit on system requirements and Steam launch.
- Decide mouse-only versus keyboard assist using controls. Steam lists a mouse-only option, playable-without-timed-input, and custom volume. Prototype 0.5.5 already teaches click-drag and Space-to-run.
- Run one cotton everyday dress through the quality checklist so grain and speed limiter are muscle memory before a velvet ticket arrives.
- Only then open luxury bolts from fabric types.
That order keeps hardware surprises and input confusion out of the first story commissions. Those commissions are the ~35-hour spine of the full game; you do not want to learn the limiter on an opera hem.
Prototype practice versus Steam settings
The itch.io build is the right place to learn click-drag, rotation, and lace pins. It is not a guarantee that every Steam accessibility toggle already exists in 0.5.5. When a Steam feature is listed on the store (mouse-only, no timed input, custom volume, Cloud, achievements, family sharing), this hub treats it as a Steam promise. Prototype notes stay on the prototype page.
If Mac Gatekeeper blocks the prototype, that is a tools problem with a known path: Open Anyway in Privacy & Security. The steps are on prototype notes because they belong to the itch.io zip, not to the notarized Steam app you will install in September.
Keep this hub bookmarked beside the machine, not beside the lore. When a seam wobbles, you want controls and the quality checklist in one click, then back to the cloth. When a friend asks “will my laptop run it?”, you want the system requirements table, not a fabric rank. Split those jobs and the shop stays calm on launch night.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week, the prototype, and the sewing loop.
Do I need a controller for Dressmaker?
No. Sewing is mouse click-drag or keyboard Space plus arrows. Steam also lists a mouse-only option. See controls.
Will Dressmaker run on Linux at Steam launch?
The Steam store currently lists Windows and macOS. The itch.io prototype includes a Linux zip. Read system requirements before you assume a Steam Linux build.
Why does quality drop when the dress looks fine?
Grain, speed, and trim pins hide on the mannequin. Walk the quality checklist before you deliver.
Is there an official mobile version?
No. Ignore APKs and console ports. Official downloads are Steam (upcoming) and the itch.io prototype listed on the links hub.
Which guide should I open during a sew?
Keep sewing and this hub’s controls page together. Use how to play only when you have lost the loop, not mid-seam.
Is Dressmaker verified on Steam Deck?
No. Compatibility is Unknown. There is no official Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox version. Details on Steam Deck and consoles.
