Dressmaker Steam Launch

21 September 2026, Windows and macOS, and what the full shop adds over the prototype.

Steam Launch

Dressmaker’s Steam app is 4019220. The planned release date is 21 September 2026. The store page still says the game is not yet available. Wishlist it, follow it, and ignore anyone selling a “Steam unlock” this week. Cozy Lives develops; Free Lives publishes. The cozy label exists so a sewing sim can sit beside Terra Nil without pretending to be Broforce.

This page is the launch briefing: platforms, languages, features, how long the story runs, and how the full shop differs from Prototype 0.5.5. Price lives on price and wishlist. The zip you can play today lives on prototype notes. Hardware lives on system requirements.

Date and how it was announced

  • 18 September 2025 — Steam page goes live, wishlist opens.
  • 6 June 2026 — Wholesome Direct gives a September window and a trailer.
  • July 2026 — Official “Tea” post names 21 September 2026 and claims 200,000+ wishlists.
  • August 2026 — Studio posts push back on “unless there are delays” jokes; they still point at the same day.
  • 7 September 2026 — Price, regional tiers, and a 10% launch discount. Content described as complete; leftover work is bugs and post-launch.

A date on Steam is still a plan until the play button appears. If the store moves, trust the store, then this page.

Platforms and features on the store

Steam currently lists Windows and macOS. It does not currently list Linux as a launch platform, even though the itch.io prototype has a Linux build and some API text mentions Ubuntu or Mint. Play Linux on itch.io until the store changes.

Listed Steam features worth planning around:

  • Single-player
  • Steam Achievements
  • Steam Cloud
  • Family Sharing
  • Mouse-only option
  • Playable without timed input
  • Custom volume controls

Languages: English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese, each with full audio. This wiki is English and Japanese; it is not an official localization.

No official mobile, Switch, or Xbox version. Steam Deck compatibility is unknown on the store. Do not quote a random site as verification.

What you are buying compared with the prototype

The itch.io prototype was a short, generous experiment. The Steam game is the shop campaign built on that loop.

Official launch copy (7 September 2026) describes:

  • About 35 hours of story commissions, excluding off-the-rack window dresses
  • 150+ dress pieces
  • 450+ fabrics
  • 350+ accessories
  • More free content and features promised after launch

You still sketch, buy cloth, cut on grain or bias, sew, and decorate. You still pet the cat. What changes is the size of the wardrobe, the number of townsfolk, measurements that drive a mannequin, fabric shaders for silk, velvet, and novelty surfaces such as sequins, and a shop that can sell off-the-rack pieces as well as bespoke tickets. Dev “Tea” posts through 2026 documented those systems landing in the full build while the public zip stayed on 0.5.5.

Saves are not advertised as a one-click import from itch.io. Treat prototype hours as practice, not as a Cloud slot that will appear on 21 September.

Launch-week expectations

Do expect: a paid Steam install, a larger catalog, story commissions, achievements, Cloud, and the sewing loop you already know if you played 0.5.5.

Do not expect: every prototype bug to vanish at 10:00, a Linux Steam button that is not on the store, a mobile port, or a live-service battle pass. Official language is cozy single-player plus post-launch extras.

Do expect leftover polish. “Content complete” two weeks out means the team is fixing, not adding a new opera house. Lace pins, UI, and performance are the kind of work that continues after a sewing sim ships.

If you have never sewn in the prototype, spend an evening on how to play and the quality checklist before launch weekend. Velvet is a poor first teacher when the whole town is watching.

Where to click

Check those URLs, not a search ad. The Updates Hub keeps this launch page next to price so a discount tweet does not outrun the dated news post. When the play button finally lights, come back here only if platforms or features changed; otherwise go sew. The date is 21 September 2026 until Steam says it is not, and the prototype remains the only official way to play until that morning.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for launch week, the prototype, and the sewing loop.

When does Dressmaker come out on Steam?

21 September 2026, per official July 2026 news and the store. It is not in your library until that play button appears.

Which platforms does the Steam version list?

Windows and macOS. The prototype also has Linux. See system requirements for specs.

How long is the full game?

About 35 hours of story commissions, not counting off-the-rack dresses, per the 7 September 2026 price announcement.

Will my prototype save carry over?

Do not count on it. Official materials do not promise an itch.io import into Steam Cloud. Treat 0.5.5 as practice.

Is content still being added before launch?

Official notes say content is complete, with bugs and post-launch extras remaining. That is polish, not a new genre.

Where is the trailer from?

Wholesome Direct on 6 June 2026 announced the September window with a trailer. This page does not embed it; the homepage carries the official video.
