Dressmaker Steam Deck and Consoles

Dressmaker is a desktop sewing sim. Steam currently lists Windows and macOS for the full game planned on 21 September 2026. Steam Deck compatibility on the store is Unknown. There is no official Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox version. There is no official mobile build. This page exists so a hopeful handheld screenshot does not outrun the store flags. It is not a verification report, because Valve has not published one.

Prototype 0.5.5 on itch.io already ships Windows, macOS, and Linux zips. The Steam linux flag is false even if API requirement text mentions Ubuntu or Mint. Handheld rumours often start from that Linux zip and from Steam’s listed comfort options: a mouse-only path, playable without timed input, and custom volume. Those flags are encouraging for a Deck-shaped evening. They are not a Verified badge. Do not paste them into a buying guide as if Cozy Lives sat in Valve’s lab.

What “Unknown” actually means

Unknown is a Steam Deck store state. It is not “unplayable.” It is not “Verified.” It is not “Playable with caveats” either. It means nobody has a published rating you can quote. Third-party trackers, Reddit photos of a prototype window on a handheld, and “runs Proton fine” comments are anecdotes. This wiki will not launder anecdotes into a rating.

If you already own a Deck and want to try the itch.io Linux zip, that is your hardware and your risk. File names still need to match the official 0.5.5 Linux archive. Proton tricks on a random exe are how people install malware that happens to be named Dressmaker. Official clicks stay on the store page for app 4019220 and on the itch.io prototype page.

When the Steam app ships, look at the Deck section of the store again. If it still says Unknown on 21 September 2026, it is still Unknown. If Valve later marks it Playable or Verified, update this page; do not assume the August or September Tea posts silently included a handheld QA pass. Those posts were about content complete, credits, price, and bugs.

Why mouse-only and no timed input matter, and why they are not enough

Sewing in Dressmaker is click-drag or Space plus arrows, with a speed limiter. Steam lists a mouse-only option and playable without timed input. That combination is why people hope a Deck will work: you can sew without a rhythm-game stream of face buttons, and you can plug a mouse into the USB-C dock. Custom volume helps on a train. Hope is not a test plan. Trackpads are worse than a mouse for lace pins and for marching-ants curves. Prototype players already bounce off laptop trackpads. A Deck trackpad may be better than a glossy laptop pad and still worse than a cheap office mouse on a cafe table. If you take this game handheld, pack a mouse. If you cannot pack a mouse, lower the limiter and expect slower hems, not a Verified sticker.

The full shop adds fabric shaders, a larger catalogue, measurements, and an off-the-rack window. Those are GPU and UI questions as much as input questions. System requirements still start at Windows 10 or Apple M1 with 8 GB RAM and an Intel UHD 630-class GPU. A Deck is a different machine. Do not read the UHD 630 line as a Deck pass.

Consoles, phones, and the APK pile

No Switch port. No PS5 sewing machine. No Xbox atelier. Free Lives knows consoles; Cozy Lives has not announced Dressmaker for them. A trailer on a television does not mean a SKU. If a storefront lists “Dressmaker” on a console, check the developer. Other games share the name. This one is Cozy Lives, published by Free Lives, Steam app 4019220, Unity, single-player.

Ignore APKs. Ignore “Dressmaker mobile unlocked.” Ignore console ROM sites. The only official playable build today is Prototype 0.5.5 on itch.io. The only official paid build will be Steam when the play button appears. Handheld Android clones with bows in the icon are unrelated dress-up toys or worse.

Family sharing, Cloud, and achievements are Steam desktop features for the full app. They do not imply a console trophy list. They do not imply a Deck Verified tick. Quote them on the Steam launch page as PC store flags.

A honest pre-launch handheld plan

1. Wishlist Windows or macOS on Steam. That is the product.
2. If you sew on a Deck-shaped device before launch, use the official Linux prototype zip and a mouse, and treat every glitch as a prototype glitch.
3. Do not buy a grey-market “Deck edition.” There is not one.
4. On 21 September 2026, read the store’s Deck line before you travel. Unknown stays Unknown until it does not.
5. If the store never verifies it, dock the handheld, plug in a mouse, and sew like a tiny desktop. That is a personal workaround, not a rating.

Linux on itch is a gift for desktop tinkerers. It is not a promise that Proton will bless every Steam build. macOS on Steam is Apple Silicon, not a handheld. Windows is the volume platform. Plan your launch-night suitcase around a laptop or a desktop that clears the system requirements, and let the Deck be an experiment you run after the credits, not the machine you trust with a 14.99 USD story you cannot refund because the trackpad fought a silk curve.

The shop is still a table, a needle, and a cat. Tables like mice. Needles like slow limiters. Cats do not care whether Valve published a badge. Until the store writes a word other than Unknown, this wiki will not write one either.
